Mysterious egg

During our trip to Forest School we made a mysterious discovery…. A giant egg!

We aren’t sure what has laid the egg yet but we had some guesses… A giant chicken? A dinosaur? A unicorn? (Some of the children’s guesses!)

The children were very excited and built the egg a lovely nest. I wonder if we will find out what is inside?

Germs germs go away!

Today we have had many children off school with a sickness bug.

In class we have talked about washing hands to help not pass on germs. These children put glitter on their hands and pretended it to be germs. They then washed their hands and noticed there was glitter still on their hands, shoes, doors, tables…. everywhere! By the end of the day we could see the glitter all over the classroom – this helped the children to understand how easy it is to spread germs!

We talked about importance of washing hands to prevent germs from spreading. The children loved this!

Egg hunt at Forest Schools

Today we made our own Easter baskets and then went on an Easter egg hunt at Forest School!

The children were very excited. Once we had finished we counted how many eggs each child had found and those with lots were more than happy to share with the children who hadn’t found as many. What lovely sharing!

Maybe the Easter Bunny will be back!

Humpty Dumpty Egg experiment

This week we conducted an experiment with boiled eggs.

First we predicted which materials would be the best to protect the eggs from a fall – all of the children completed a sheet and managed to write why they thought that material would be the best.

We then got into small groups and used our chosen material to wrap and protect the egg… We had to work together and be very careful not to crack our egg in the process (unfortunately 2 were!)

Finally we put our eggs safely into a bag and did the egg drop test. We all dropped our eggs from the same height so it was fair.

We all worked together, made predictions and celebrated the team that had the egg with the least amount of damage. Well done, Reception class!
